Lucky #7

The weather on our last day in Banff (and also our 7th Wedding Anniversary) was clear and beautiful after overnight snow so we took a drive out to Lake Minnewanka and it didn’t disappoint. It’s so difficult to get true photos of the landscape here as the images never do the real thing justice. The downside to visiting Banff National Park during winter is a lot of roads are closed for the season. Many are open for cross country skiiing, snowshoeing and hiking, activities a little too adventurous for us with the kids and no experience so we just stuck to the sites we could access via vehicle.

We took our time on the the 12 km road into Lake Minnewanka stopping half a dozen times or more along the way.

We had the afternoon spare as we had done all of our Banff to do list so looped back to Canmore for lunch and another explore. We had come across an awesome raspberry wheat ale made by a local Canmore brewery The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company during the week so decided on lunch at their pub. After a delicious lunch and a sample of more of their beers we visited their retail outlet and made a 12 pack purchase of our favourites.

We also revisited The Oh Canada Soap shop to restock and wandered some Christmas markets. Canmore was noticeably busier on a Sunday compared to the Monday we last called in but was still a quieter pace than Banff which was a nice change.

We spent the rest of the afternoon washing and packing up ready for our next morning departure.

Ad had booked a table at Park a local restaurant and gin distillery for our anniversary dinner and last night in Banff. We all enjoyed our meals and the kids occupied themselves counting how many waves they could collect from passerby’s through the windows.
