Calories, Caves & Carols

Ad and I woke feeling rather hungry so decided to try out the highly recommended Touloulous for breakfast. We arrived just in time as a line up quickly grew out the door and down the street. We walked out with our bellies full of French toast, pancakes and waffles (and more terrible coffee! Ad has taken to ordering English breakfast tea which I should probably do too but I’m hoping to either be pleasantly surprised one morning or slowly become accustomed (to the coffee). After breakfast we wandered around Banff. Adam and Lioney took in some art galleries while Aubrey and I visited the Banff Library on the hunt for Aubs’ favourite books – Rainbow Magic Fairies. Much to the girls delight she found them and had a little read.

We all reconvened and made our way up to Cave and Basin, the original National Park of Canada. It was surreal entering the cave and sitting around the edge of the natural spring lagoon. The boys of course found a joke in the fact the cavern smelt of rotten eggs. Aubrey wasn’t impressed however and was happy to leave and find some fresh air.

From here we then drove Tunnel Mountain drive and a few back streets exploring Banff township. I always find it interesting to see the local communities behind the face of major tourist towns.

On returning to Elk + Avenue, Aubrey was thrilled to see some live music setting up at GoodEarth and she and I stayed a while to enjoy the local talent. Aubrey even bought a CD she enjoyed Jonas and Connelly so much.

A delicious dinner that night was had at Balkan Greek restaurant and on the walk home we came across carols, campfires and marshmallows! We joined in and the kids made some amazing memories.
